Attar is a concentrated, alcohol-free perfume oil traditionally made in the Middle East and South Asia. Instead of alcohol, the fragrance sits in a carrier oil, so it is applied directly to the skin in small amounts and releases scent slowly as it warms.

How attar differs from regular perfume

A standard Eau de Parfum is roughly 15 to 20 percent fragrance oil suspended in alcohol. The alcohol evaporates on contact, which is why a spray projects strongly for the first hour and then fades. Attar has no alcohol at all. It does not project across a room, it stays close to the skin, and it typically lasts considerably longer because nothing is flashing off.

Why people choose alcohol-free

  • Longevity. Oils cling to skin rather than evaporating, so a single application often lasts most of a day.
  • Sensitive skin. Alcohol can dry or irritate. Oil-based attars are usually gentler.
